As a high school principal, I see a relatively low number of disciplinary referrals in a day and
sometimes go all day and do not see one at all.  However, I notice that if I see one I will
probably see several.  Some note that this will happen on days of weather change, “as
the barometer goes down, the referrals go up”.  Others note that it might be affected by a full
moon and I must say, it does make one wonder.  I also notice that it can be connected to a
long span of time in school without a break.  Whatever, it is clear that the human species is
truly a creature of habit and we are all much more alike than we might like to think.

Actually, that should not surprise us so much.  God made us in his image, creatures with
a living soul and we all have common parentage if we go back far enough in time.  The point is
because we are so much alike, we can be better at understanding one another than we
are.  Maybe that is why the golden rule works so well.  Just treat others the way
you want to be treated.  After all, they are actually much like you.
