2/24/08I have two bird houses in my front yard which I placed there hoping to attractblue birds to nest. Each year I am pleased at about this time to see blue birdscome and begin surveying the situation and I hope they move in. Sometimeshowever sparrows come and move in before the blue birds can set up housekeeping. Now I don’t go destroy their nests and try to run them off, but I really wanted bluebirds. They are prettier and somehow it just sounds more acceptable to have blue birdsnesting in my front yard than to have sparrows. As I think about this, the questionarises as to why this should be so. Why shouldn’t I be just as happy to have sparrows? The fact is there is probably no good reason except to for the reasonsI noted before, the blue birds are prettier.Actually, America has a sort of a “blue bird” test they put us all through. If we are a little overweight, we don’t pass it. If we our hair is not fixed rightor if we don’t have healthy tanned looking skin, or if we don’t drive nicecars or wear nice clothes, we are considered less desirable. We are Sparrows. InGod’s word, he mentioned watching over the sparrows and to my knowledge saysnot one word about blue birds. Maybe being a sparrow isn’t so bad after all.Bob
