3/19/06Many years ago as a young pastor, I would occasionally visit an elderly man wholived in a neat but secluded house in the neighborhood of the church. Heseemed to live fairly well on a very small income as many did in that communitybut the thing that most impressed me was how he always seemed happy.Looking back, I believe I see the basis of that happiness.
He had a simple philosophy for life, he would state it, “I try to live every day so that I can facethe Man Upstairs and the Man in the Mirror without being ashamed”. His other beliefs inlife were also just as simple and earthy. He believed in hard work, unerringhonesty and being a valuable part of his family and community.
Now I know his philosophy was not unique nor had he found any deep insights heretoforeunknown to mankind. I believe the secret of his happiness lay in two things: First, hehad developed a very sound life philosophy. Secondly, he lived it.Bob
