Home Back

7/3/05
There was a time in my life that as a pastor, I
was not all that excited about patriotism as a
part of a worship service.
And I realize there may be some here today that may share
that feeling to some degree.
But time has changed my perspective on this issue
and I can only hope it is changed for the better.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I was never
against being patriotic, I just wondered if it
should take up time that was set aside for
worship and for looking into God’s word.
But as I said, I am now beginning
to change that point of view and here are two
reasons why. First of all,
God’s word is clear that we are to respect and
obey the laws and leaders of
our land and that should be done with due honor.
Today, we honor our heritage
of freedom that a whole host of leaders, military
men and lawmakers and most
importantly, God himself have brought to us.
Second, Christianity is coming under
attack in
America
today and I, for one, think it is time we demonstrated
that it is perfectly compatible being Christian and
American.
