1/16/05Lately there has been a great deal said about heroes for one reason or another and itstarted me thinking about who my heroes have been and are yet today. I remember ateacher who was able to challenge my friends and me as eighth graders in asmall and somewhat limited school. I remember my high school coach who was ascompetitive as any man I ever knew and yet never was seen as anythingbut a gentlemen at the games.Later, my heroes changed somewhat as I was moved by the strength of a man namedHomer Book who overcame many problems with his health and yetnever seemed to complain or be in a bad mood.
Today, I find my heroes being people I do not know who I see hugging theirfamilies as they go off to war. Or showing great strengthand resolve in the face of disaster. One thing is probably true, any or all of these people would not think of themselvesas heroes, just people doing the best they could. Andafter all, isn’t that the best hero of all?Bob
